Project background

An open-plan steel canopy designed for clear spans and fast erection.

The structure is a single-bay, four-column steel canopy spanning 14.3 m in plan length and 4.5 m in width, supported on four pad foundations spaced at 3.7 m on centre, with 1.6 m cantilevers at each end. The canopy roof sits at +4.50 m above ground, providing covered space below for pedestrian or vehicular movement at platform level.

The complete deliverable covered structural analysis under gravity, wind, and lateral loads; sizing of all primary and secondary members; design of every steel connection in IDEA StatiCa per AISC 360-16; design of base plates and anchor bolts into reinforced-concrete pad foundations; and production of a full set of fabrication shop drawings with section markers, member schedules, and joint details.

What we designed

01 SAP2000 3D Model

Full 3D structural model with frame elements, supports, mass sources, and section assignments for the entire building.

02 Load Analysis

Dead, live, sandwich panel, deck slab, wind, and seismic load patterns applied per code with 16+ load combinations.

03 Member Design

Steel beams (IPE270, IPE240), columns (built-up 250×600), and ZZ purlins (ZZ180-2-30-70) sized per AISC 360-16.

04 Foundation Design

Isolated pad footings over plain concrete, designed using Tekla Tedds with 10T16 reinforcement top and bottom.

05 Connection Design

Bolted and welded connections verified using IDEA StatiCa for tension, shear, and bearing per AISC 360-16 J3.

06 Anchor & Base Plate Design

Anchor bolt design with concrete breakout checks per ACI 318-14 & 17.4.2 — embedment depth, edge distance, and group action verified.

07 Drift & Serviceability

Horizontal drift checks at +4.00 level under service load combinations to verify within code-permitted limits.

08 Calculation Reports

Submitted IDEA StatiCa reports and Tekla Tedds foundation calculation note for reviewer approval.
